11-year-old girl among three killed in fiery Eastern Region crash
An 11-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a crash involving an STC bus, a fuel tanker and two other vehicles near Bonsu Junction in Ghana’s Eastern Region, bringing the death toll to three.
Three people have now been confirmed dead following a fiery road crash involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker and two other vehicles at Etukrom near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region.
The latest victim is an 11-year-old girl who was among seven people injured in the crash and later died while receiving treatment at the Hawa Memorial Hospital.
The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Ohemeng Adu Aaron, confirmed the development.
Two people were initially reported dead after the accident, which happened on Monday, 3 August 2026.
The collision caused the STC bus, the fuel tanker and a Mitsubishi pick-up to be completely burnt, while a Kia Sorento involved in the crash suffered extensive damage.
Emergency teams from the GNFS and other agencies rushed to the scene to battle the fire, rescue passengers and provide support to victims.
The injured victims five males and two females were taken to the Hawa Memorial Hospital, where the 11-year-old girl later died.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those who died.
The vehicles involved in the crash were an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up (GE 8602-17), and a Kia Sorento (GT 8601-14).
Road crashes remain a major public safety concern in Ghana, with emergency agencies repeatedly warning motorists about speeding, fatigue and unsafe driving practices.
