Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman wins NPP Upper West chairmanship
Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman has secured a decisive victory in the NPP's Upper West regional chairmanship race, as the opposition party steps up efforts to rebuild its structures ahead of the 2028 election.
Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman has been elected chairman of Ghana's opposition New Patriotic Party in the Upper West Region, defeating his only challenger by 87 votes.
Mr Abdu-Rahaman secured 173 votes against Kantong Alaska's 86 in the party's regional executive elections held at the Wa Technical Institute.
The election is part of the NPP's nationwide reorganisation as it seeks to rebuild its structures and strengthen its electoral prospects ahead of the 2028 general election.
Mr Abdu-Rahaman and the other newly elected executives will oversee the party's activities and mobilisation efforts in the region.
Other results
Majeed Liman was elected first vice-chairman with 198 votes, while Philip Braimah won the second vice-chairmanship with 166 votes.
Dr Tanko Daniel Dauda secured the secretary position with 186 votes and Alhassan Suleman was elected treasurer with 160 votes.
Hamid Saana became regional organiser after receiving 138 votes, while Dodoo Sadat won the youth organiser position with 158 votes.
Yussif Alhassan received 200 votes to become assistant secretary.
Alhaji Muniru was elected Nasara organiser with 179 votes and Nana Sadat became communications officer after securing 185 votes.
Minata Moomen won the women's organiser position with 139 votes.
Voting briefly disrupted
The elections were largely peaceful, although voting was temporarily disrupted after some delegates from the Nandom Constituency interrupted the process.
The disruption was later resolved, allowing the elections to continue.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the NPP's reorganisation in the Upper West Region as the party prepares for the next general election.
