Chairman Wontumi's bail hearing adjourned to October 15

The bail application of former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned after he and his lawyers failed to appear in court.

The bail application of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned to 15 October 2026.

The adjournment followed the failure of Mr Boasiako and his lawyers to appear before the court for the hearing.

Mr Boasiako is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for illegal mining.

Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai was present in court for the proceedings.

The court is expected to consider the bail application when the case resumes on 15 October.

No further reason for Mr Boasiako's absence or that of his legal team was provided in the information available.

The adjournment means the court will have to wait until October before considering the application seeking his release on bail.

Mr Boasiako, a prominent NPP figure in the Ashanti Region, is serving his sentence following his conviction for illegal mining.

The next hearing is scheduled for 15 October 2026.
