CSSPS placement results to be released on Friday after 20,000 candidates delayed process
The Education Ministry says the 2026 school placement results will be published on Friday after extending the process to allow about 20,000 candidates to submit their information.
The Ministry of Education says the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System results will be released on Friday, September 4, following a delay affecting about 20,000 candidates.
The ministry had planned to publish the results last week but extended the process after discovering that thousands of qualified candidates had been unable to enter their information into the CSSPS platform.
Its Press Secretary and Spokesperson, Hashmin Mohammed, told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday that the placement process had now been completed.
“We are set to release the placement results tomorrow [Friday],” he said.
The results will determine the placement of qualified candidates into senior high schools and other second-cycle institutions.
Mr Mohammed said the number of candidates who had not completed the required process was too large for the ministry to proceed with the original release schedule.
“When we thought we could release it as of last week, unfortunately, we had some students who were unable to load their data into the CSSPS system. And then, looking at the number, the number was huge,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, approximately 20,000 candidates had initially been unable to upload their information. The ministry therefore extended the deadline to ensure that they were not excluded from the placement exercise.
Mr Mohammed said the decision was intended to protect fairness and give every qualified candidate an opportunity to secure a place in a second-cycle institution.
“If we are operating on an equity-based system, we needed to offer them the opportunity to extend the date so that they would be able to upload their data into the system for them to be placed into a school,” he said.
“One of the requirements is that once you are qualified, you need to be placed into a school.”
The ministry says about 18,000 of the affected candidates have since successfully entered their information into the CSSPS system.
The remaining approximately 2,000 candidates are from special-needs schools and will not be required to complete the same school-choice confirmation process as other candidates.
Mr Mohammed said the schools for those candidates had already been identified and their placements would be entered manually.
“Their schools only give us the list, and then we place them manually into the system because their schools are already defined,” he explained.
