Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Begins Petrol Exports to Ghana
The 650,000 barrels-per-day facility starts regional fuel distribution, promising cheaper petrol for West African consumers.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos has commenced petrol exports to Ghana, marking a significant milestone in West Africa's quest for energy self-sufficiency. The first shipment of 30 million litres arrived at the Port of Tema on Monday.
Ghana's National Petroleum Authority confirmed that the Dangote fuel is priced 8% below the current benchmark for imported refined petroleum products. "This represents real savings that should translate to lower pump prices for consumers," said NPA Chief Executive Mustapha Abdul-Hamid.
The 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery is the largest in Africa and has been gradually ramping up production since its commissioning. Industry experts expect it to fundamentally reshape West Africa's downstream petroleum market.
