Electoral Commission Completes Voter Registration for 2028 Elections
Over 18 million Ghanaians registered to vote as the Commission declares readiness for the next general election cycle.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has completed its nationwide voter registration exercise, registering 18.4 million voters for the 2028 general elections. Chairperson Jean Mensa announced the figures at a press conference in Accra.
"This is the most comprehensive voter register in Ghana's history," she said, noting that the biometric verification system has been upgraded with improved facial recognition technology to reduce duplicates.
The exercise, conducted over six weeks in all 275 constituencies, saw high turnout in urban areas, particularly in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions. Opposition parties have called for an independent audit of the register, a request the EC said it would consider.
