Family appeals for privacy after young lawyer's death during Ghana match celebrations
The family of a 26-year-old lawyer who died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest during celebrations following Ghana's victory over Panama at the FIFA World Cup has appealed to the public to disregard speculation circulating on social media about the circumstances of her death.
Sara Araba Tettey, a newly qualified lawyer and graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, is reported to have collapsed shortly after celebrations erupted following the Black Stars' opening-match win on Wednesday.
Speaking to local media, a family member described Ms Tettey as a vibrant young woman whose death had come as a shock to relatives and friends.
"We are saddened by this loss. She had just completed law school and was full of life," the relative said.
The family has rejected claims circulating online suggesting that her death was linked to public humiliation or other circumstances being discussed on social media.
According to relatives, there was no indication that Ms Tettey had been subjected to any unusual or extreme situation before she collapsed.
"She was not subjected to any extreme situation as being speculated online.
From what we understand, she simply slumped into a chair and collapsed," a family member said.
The family has appealed for privacy as it mourns her death and comes to terms with the loss.
The circumstances surrounding Ms Tettey's death have attracted widespread public attention following Ghana's victory celebrations, prompting relatives to call for restraint and accuracy in public discussions about the incident.
