Finance Ministry says all 6,300 newly recruited teachers have been paid
The Finance Ministry has rejected claims of unpaid salaries, insisting all 6,300 affected GES recruits have been paid and directing workers with unresolved arrears to the education service.
The Ministry of Finance says all 6,300 Ghana Education Service employees recruited without financial clearance in 2024 have now received their salaries.
The ministry’s statement follows complaints from the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the Ghana Education Service over outstanding salaries and arrears.
According to the ministry, the government inherited the cases in 2025 and subsequently secured Cabinet approval to grant financial clearance for the affected workers.
It said the clearance was issued in four batches to address their salary concerns.
“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” the statement issued on 8 September 2026 said.
The ministry also said it had no outstanding requests from the Ghana Education Service for financial clearance.
The Finance Ministry advised any affected worker with an unresolved case to contact the Ghana Education Service, explaining that such complaints may relate to payroll or other administrative issues.
The statement effectively places responsibility for resolving the remaining individual cases on the GES.
The Ghana Education Service has yet to publicly respond to the Finance Ministry’s assertion or clarify how many newly posted employees may still have unresolved payroll complaints.
