Ghana Armed Forces deny probe into former CDS Thomas Oppong-Peprah

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports that former Chief of the Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, is under investigation for alleged infractions.

In a statement issued on Friday, the military described the report as “malicious” and “groundless”, insisting that no such investigation is being conducted.

The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state emphatically that the story is false and groundless. No such investigation is being undertaken,” the statement said.

The military said it had become aware of a report alleging that Gen Oppong-Peprah was being investigated by the GAF over unspecified infractions.

It did not identify the publication or source of the report in its statement.

The GAF urged the public to disregard the claims and stop circulating what it described as misinformation.

Gen Oppong-Peprah previously served as Ghana’s Chief of the Defence Staff, the highest-ranking professional military position in the country.

He is currently Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada, according to the military statement.

The denial comes amid public interest in the activities and conduct of senior public officials and former military commanders. However, the GAF has provided no further details about the report it is disputing or the alleged infractions referred to in it.

The military said members of the public should rely on official channels for information concerning the Ghana Armed Forces and its former senior officers.
