Kantanka Security licence suspended over shooting incident in Accra
Ghana's Interior Ministry has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following a shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, receiving medical treatment.
The ministry announced the suspension on Monday, citing the alleged use of unauthorised uniforms as well as the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the private security company during an incident in Kwabenya, a suburb of Accra, on 21 June.
In a statement, the ministry said preliminary investigations had uncovered possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which governs the activities of private security firms in Ghana.
The alleged breaches relate to the conduct of security personnel deployed by Kantanka Security Services during the incident that resulted in the reported shooting of Ms Safo.
The ministry said the suspension would remain in force pending further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not yet released additional details on the shooting or indicated whether criminal charges will be filed.
The case has attracted significant public attention amid ongoing investigations into the events that led to the violence.
