Mahama pledges more schools and healthcare closer to Ghanaians
President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to expand access to secondary education and basic healthcare, promising more schools in densely populated areas and home-based health services for communities.
President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to expand secondary school infrastructure and bring basic healthcare closer to communities as he toured Ghana's Upper East Region.
Commissioning a new E-Block at Paga Senior High School, he said ending the double-track system would give students more contact time with teachers and help improve academic performance.
He also announced plans to build more E-Blocks in densely populated areas of major cities, allowing children to attend Community Day Senior High Schools closer to home.
During the tour, Mr Mahama also urged Ghanaians to take part in the government's Free Primary Healthcare programme, including home visits by health workers.
The initiative will involve basic screening for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as identifying pregnant women, newborns and others who may need further medical care.
The president said early detection could prevent serious complications and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring access to healthcare regardless of where people live.
