Mahama reshuffles cabinet: Kenneth Adjei named Defence Minister-designate, Zanetor Rawlings gets Environment role

President John Dramani Mahama has reshuffled his government, nominating Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Defence Minister-designate and appointing Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister of State-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.

The changes, announced by the Presidency on Friday, also include the appointment of Mahama Ayariga as Minister of State for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to approval by Parliament.

Mr Adjei, who previously served as Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, moves to the Defence Ministry following the appointment of Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda, to take over the works and housing portfolio.

Dr Agyemang-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, will take up a minister of state position at the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry, pending parliamentary approval.

The Presidency said the changes were part of efforts to “strengthen governance and enhance the delivery of government priorities”.

The reshuffle comes as the Mahama administration faces pressure to deliver on key campaign promises, including tackling illegal mining, improving infrastructure and strengthening national security.

Under Ghana’s constitution, all ministerial nominees must be approved by Parliament before assuming office.
