Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang urges Black Stars to stay united ahead of World Cup opener

Vice-President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghana's national football team to remain united and give their best as they prepare for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang delivered the message during a visit to the Black Stars' training camp in Toronto, Canada, ahead of Ghana's Group D fixture against Panama on Wednesday.

Leading a delegation of senior Ghanaian officials and dignitaries, the Vice-President assured the players of the support of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

"Ghana is rooting for you, regardless of where you are, whether in the diaspora, on farms, or at home. The whole country is behind you," she told the team.

She praised the players for their efforts and encouraged them to build on their achievements as they seek success at the tournament.

"We know you are doing well, and we know you will excel. I want you to go even higher," she said.

The Vice-President also highlighted the importance of teamwork, describing cooperation as essential to success in football.

"Regardless of what your strength is, you become even stronger when you play with somebody else. If, in the process, you make someone else even stronger, we succeed even more," she said.

Ghana face Panama in their first match of the tournament on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 23:00 GMT.

The Black Stars are seeking a positive start to their World Cup campaign as they aim to progress from the group stage.
