NPP extends filing deadline for 2026 national officers election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended the deadline for filing nomination forms for its 2026 National Officers Elections by two days.

Under the revised timetable, aspirants will now have until Saturday, August 29 to submit their completed nomination forms, instead of the original deadline of Thursday, August 27.

The party's National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) said the extension was necessary because of the level of interest in the elections.

As of Thursday, August 20, 44 aspirants had picked up nomination forms, with two days still remaining in the form-collection period.

The committee said the additional time would allow for an orderly filing process and give aspirants adequate opportunity to submit and have their nomination documents verified.

“The Committee considers it prudent to provide the additional time to facilitate an orderly filing process,” the NOEC said in a statement issued on Friday.

Vetting to begin as scheduled

The extension will not affect the next stage of the election timetable.

Vetting of aspirants will begin on Monday, August 31 and continue until September 3.

The NOEC said subsequent stages of the electoral process would also proceed according to schedule.

The revised timetable provides for the publication of vetting results on September 5, followed by an appeals period from September 6 to 7.

The party's National Executive Committee and National Council are scheduled to meet on September 10, followed by the publication of the notice of poll on September 14.

The national officers election itself is scheduled for October 3, 2026.

The extension gives aspirants who have already collected forms more time to complete the filing process, while those who have yet to submit their documents have until August 29 to do so.

The NOEC said it remained committed to conducting the elections in a fair, transparent and credible manner, with equal opportunity for all aspirants.

It also appealed to aspirants, their supporters, party members and the media to cooperate with the electoral process.

The NPP's national elections will determine the party's next national officers as it prepares for the next phase of its political activities.
