The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has closed the school indefinitely after a violent incident in which the headteacher was allegedly attacked by students, leaving him injured and prompting police to arrest six people as investigations continue.
The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has ordered the indefinite closure of Obuasi Secondary Technical School after violence broke out on campus, with students accused of attacking the headteacher and damaging school property.
The headteacher was injured during the incident and was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment. His current condition has not been made public.
Police have arrested six students as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the unrest.
The violence followed allegations circulating among students that the headteacher had buried a foetus near the
school. Authorities have not confirmed the claim, and there is no evidence linking the headteacher to any wrongdoing.
The Municipal Assembly said the closure was necessary to restore calm and protect the safety of students and staff.
Three staff bungalows, vehicles and other school property were reportedly damaged during the disturbance.
Security personnel have been deployed to the school while investigations continue.
