A curfew has been imposed in parts of northern Ghana after communal clashes left one person dead and six others injured, local authorities have said.
The restrictions affect Damankunyili, Nyeshie and neighbouring communities in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region, where officials say they are seeking to prevent further violence.
The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has also banned the carrying of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons in the affected areas with immediate effect.
In a statement, Municipal Chief Executive and MUSEC Chairman Abdulai Imoro Gong condemned the violence, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The curfew will be in force daily from 17:00 to 07:00 until further notice.
Authorities said joint police patrols had been stepped up to enforce the restrictions and maintain security.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with the security agencies, remain calm and resolve disputes peacefully as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
Officials have not yet disclosed what triggered the clashes, and investigations are under way.
