The incident occurred at Kwabenya on Sunday during a ceremony at a residence linked to the Kristo Asafo family.
Speaking on Nhyira FM on Monday, the Director of Public Affairs for the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said Mr Akofena had been invited to report to the regional command as part of ongoing investigations.
"The Ghana Police Service has invited Mr Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to assist with investigations into a shooting incident," she said.
Police have also detained six private security personnel in connection with the case, with legal processes underway.
According to Supt Obeng, a search carried out by investigators led to the recovery of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
She said anyone required to assist investigators would be invited for questioning and that those found responsible for any offences would face prosecution.
Supt Obeng confirmed that Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, sustained injuries during the incident.
She said the former MP was in a stable condition and receiving medical care.
"Medical personnel are monitoring her progress and the Police Service will continue to receive updates on her condition," she said.
According to preliminary police findings, officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya.
Police said they established that a ceremony was taking place at the home of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena, when Ms Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested entry to the premises.
She was allegedly denied access.
"The armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Adwoa Safo," Supt Obeng said.
Police also found multiple gunshot marks on the former MP's vehicle.
The police have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue, saying verified updates would be provided through official channels.
The shooting comes amid an ongoing dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission and the family of its founder, the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the family rejected claims by Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo to the leadership of the mission, insisting that the succession arrangements established by the founder remain in force.
The family said Sarah Adwoa Safo remains the recognised head of the Kwadwo Safo family and continues to serve as its principal representative.
