Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher arrested after viral student assault video

A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested after a video circulating on social media appeared to show him physically assaulting a female student on the school's campus.

The incident has sparked widespread public concern, with the footage showing what appears to be a confrontation between the teacher and the student as bystanders pleaded with him to stop.

In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student before lifting and throwing her to the ground. Witnesses can be heard urging him to stop, reminding him that the student was a girl.

The teacher, who appeared visibly agitated, was heard responding: "Is she aware she is a lady?"

The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana

Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, in a post on Facebook.

"The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested. Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ," he wrote.

The circumstances that led to the altercation remain unclear, and neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service have publicly disclosed details of what triggered the incident.

The Ghana Education Service said the regional education directorate had launched an investigation and would submit a full report to its headquarters.

The incident has prompted calls from members of the public for accountability and renewed attention to student safety and welfare within educational institutions.

The outcome of both the education authorities' inquiry and any police investigations is expected to determine whether further disciplinary or legal action will be taken against the teacher.
