The N6 standstill: Bus, truck and car crash blocks Ghana’s busiest corridor

A major crash involving a passenger bus, an articulated truck and a saloon car has brought traffic on the N6 Highway between Accra and Kumasi to a standstill.

The collision, which occurred at Birimso Bridge in the Eastern Region on Monday, August 3, 2026, has completely blocked the highway, preventing vehicles travelling in both directions from passing through the affected section.

The Ghana Police Service said the crash involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a fully loaded articulated truck and a sedan.

Details of casualties and what led to the collision are yet to be confirmed.

The Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi has been deployed to the scene to manage the situation and coordinate efforts to restore traffic flow.

Police have introduced temporary diversions to ease congestion and help motorists continue their journeys.

Vehicles heading towards Accra are being redirected through Kibi at Nsutam, while those travelling towards Kumasi are being diverted through Apedwa.

The police have urged drivers and passengers using the route to cooperate with officers stationed along the highway and exercise caution while emergency teams work to clear the crash scene.

The N6 Highway is one of Ghana’s busiest transport corridors, connecting Accra to Kumasi and serving thousands of commercial vehicles, buses and private motorists daily.

Authorities have advised motorists to expect delays, follow diversion signs and avoid unnecessary congestion around the affected area.
