Three-day water shutdown: Thousands urged to store water ahead of pipeline works

Customers in parts of the Greater Accra Region are being advised to prepare for a three-day interruption in water supply as Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) carries out major maintenance works on sections of its transmission network.

The state-owned utility said its engineers and technical teams would work continuously throughout the maintenance period to replace deteriorated pipeline sections and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible.

GWL apologised for the disruption and urged households and businesses in affected areas to store enough water before the work begins and use available supplies sparingly during the outage.

The company also appealed to hospitals, health facilities and other providers of essential services to activate contingency plans to minimise the impact of the interruption.

It said water tankers would be deployed, where possible, to support selected critical institutions during the maintenance works.

According to GWL, replacing the ageing pipeline sections is intended to reduce the frequency of pipe bursts, minimise emergency shutdowns and improve the long-term reliability of water supply to customers in Tema and communities along the eastern corridor of the Greater Accra Region.

The utility described the project as an investment in one of Ghana's most strategic water transmission systems, saying it would help improve operational efficiency and strengthen the resilience of the network.

GWL said it would provide regular updates on the progress of the work through its official communication channels and notify the public once normal water supply had been fully restored.
