Three ex-students arrested over Hohoe SHS vandalism

Police in the Volta Region have arrested three former students of Hohoe E.P. Senior High School for allegedly damaging the school's water pipeline shortly after completing their final examinations.

The Volta North Regional Police Command said the arrests followed a complaint from school authorities, who reported that a group of former students had vandalised the facility before leaving campus.

According to police, the complaint was lodged on 19 June after a video allegedly showing the incident came to the attention of school management and law enforcement authorities.

An intelligence-led operation subsequently led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Rashid Suraj Dakpo, 19, Alhassan Mohammed, 20, and Abdul Kadri Abdulai, 20.

In a statement issued on 23 June, police said the suspects had been handed over to the Regional Investigations Department to assist with investigations and were being processed for court.

Police said efforts were continuing to locate and arrest other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident.

The Volta North Regional Police Command expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of vandalism involving students and warned that those found responsible for the destruction of school or public property would face legal consequences.

The command also appealed to parents, guardians and teachers to continue educating young people on the importance of protecting public property and the consequences of criminal damage.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
