Three Killed in Fresh Attack in Nkwanta South

Three people have been killed and nine others injured in a fresh attack in the Nkwanta South Municipality of Ghana's Oti Region, according to hospital officials.

The attack took place on Thursday evening in Odomi, a community affected by a long-running conflict that has fuelled recurring violence in the area.

Residents said unidentified gunmen entered the community, triggering panic among locals.

The injured were taken to the Nkwanta St Joseph Catholic Hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities said one victim died while receiving medical care, while two others were brought to the facility already dead after reportedly being attacked on their farms.

The identities of the attackers and the circumstances surrounding the assault have not yet been established.

Security forces, backed by military personnel, have increased patrols in the area as authorities seek to prevent further violence and restore calm.

The latest incident comes a week after the Oti Regional House of Chiefs announced plans to establish a seven-member committee to help resolve the protracted conflict in Nkwanta South.

The committee, which is yet to be inaugurated, is expected to engage community leaders and other stakeholders before making recommendations aimed at finding a lasting solution to the unrest.
