US Embassy in Accra will suspend most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, for maintenance, with some services continuing
The United States Embassy in Accra will temporarily suspend most routine consular services for nearly two weeks as it carries out scheduled maintenance work at its facility.
The suspension will run from July 20 to July 31, 2026, with normal consular operations expected to resume on August 3, 2026, the Embassy has announced.
The temporary closure will affect several routine services, including walk-in requests for notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA).
In a notice to the public, the Embassy said the measure was necessary to allow maintenance activities to be completed safely and efficiently.
However, some services will continue during the period.
Applicants who have already received email confirmation that their passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) documents are ready for collection will still be able to pick them up.
The Embassy said document collection will be available on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. during the maintenance period.
It also confirmed that adult passport renewal applications submitted through the Embassy’s drop box will continue to be processed despite the temporary suspension of other routine services.
The Embassy has advised applicants planning passport renewals or other consular-related services to check the official guidance on its website before visiting its offices.
The temporary suspension comes as the US Embassy in Accra continues to handle a high volume of consular requests, including passport renewals, visa-related services and citizenship documentation for Ghanaian applicants and American citizens in Ghana.
The Embassy urged members of the public to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary visits during the maintenance period.
