Weather alert: Mist, rain and thunderstorms forecast across parts of Ghana
Ghana's weather agency forecasts mist, light rain and afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the country, warning motorists and fishers to exercise caution.
Motorists travelling through Ghana's forested and mountainous areas have been urged to exercise caution after the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) forecast misty conditions, light rain and thunderstorms across different parts of the country on Tuesday.
The weather agency said patches of mist and fog are expected to develop during the early morning, particularly over hilly and forest zones, reducing visibility for drivers.
Light rain is also forecast along sections of the southern coast, while thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected to develop later in the day across parts of the transition and northern belts.
According to GMET's latest 18-hour weather forecast, coastal communities, including Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, Winneba, Aflao and Anloga, are expected to experience light showers during the morning before skies remain mostly cloudy for much of the day.
Inland towns such as Kumasi, Ho, Koforidua, Obuasi, Tarkwa, Goaso and Sunyani are expected to wake up to misty conditions, with cloud cover gradually giving way to periods of sunshine before rain returns in some areas later.
Northern Ghana is forecast to experience hotter conditions during the afternoon, with temperatures expected to reach between 33C and 36C in Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa, Nalerigu and Jirapa.
However, GMET says the heat is likely to trigger thunderstorms and rainfall from late afternoon into the evening across parts of the transition and northern regions, including Kete Krachi, Atebubu, Ejura, Sunyani, Sampa, Yendi and Damongo.
Across the country, daytime temperatures are expected to range from 29C to 32C in coastal and forest areas, 32C to 34C in the transition belt and up to 36C in the north. Minimum temperatures are forecast to remain between 23C and 26C.
The agency has also warned that sea conditions remain rough and advised fishers, coastal residents and operators of small boats to take extra precautions.
Drivers using roads through forested and mountainous areas have been urged to slow down and use headlights where visibility is affected by morning mist.
Residents in communities expected to experience afternoon thunderstorms have also been advised to monitor weather updates and take appropriate precautions against heavy rain and lightning.
