Weather warning: Northern regions face severe rainstorm
A storm system moving across West Africa could bring strong winds, lightning and heavy rain to five northern Ghana regions, with residents and motorists urged to take precautions.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned of a possible severe rainstorm in parts of northern Ghana after a storm was observed over northern Benin.
The weather system is forecast to move westwards and could affect the Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West and Savannah regions from Sunday night into Monday morning.
GMet says the storm could bring strong and gusty winds, frequent lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially creating hazardous conditions for people travelling or living in affected areas.
The agency issued the warning on Sunday, 16 August, urging residents to take precautions and seek shelter when heavy rain and lightning occur.
It advised people to stay away from open spaces and avoid standing under isolated trees during thunderstorms because of the risk of
lightning strikes and falling branches.
Motorists have also been urged to take extra care, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when visibility may be poor and roads could become slippery.
GMet is asking residents in the affected regions to follow official weather updates as the storm moves towards Ghana.

Residents are advised to:
• Stay indoors during periods of heavy rain and lightning.
• Avoid open areas and isolated trees.
• Take extra care when travelling, particularly on slippery roads.
• Monitor official weather updates for further warnings.
