Bawumia engages Christian Council and UK envoy on Ghana's future
The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has held separate meetings with the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana and the United Kingdom's High Commissioner to Ghana, as part of what he described as efforts to promote national development, unity and constructive political engagement.
The engagements, held in Accra on Thursday, come as political parties intensify stakeholder consultations following the 2024 general election and ahead of future political activities.
Dr Bawumia led a delegation of NPP officials to meet the Christian Council, where discussions centred on national development, social cohesion and the role of faith-based organisations in promoting peace and inclusivity.
Describing the meeting as productive, the former Vice-President said the NPP remained committed to maintaining strong ties with religious institutions, which he described as key partners in Ghana's development.
"We reaffirmed the NPP's commitment to sustained engagement with religious bodies as key partners in promoting peace, inclusivity and prosperity for all Ghanaians," he said in a social media post after the meeting.
He also thanked the Council for what he described as a warm reception and valuable contributions during the discussions.
Focus on Ghana-UK partnership
Later on Thursday, Dr Bawumia met the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, at the diplomat's residence in Accra.
According to Dr Bawumia, the discussions focused on the long-standing relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom, as well as areas of future cooperation.
The NPP flagbearer highlighted the work of the UK-Ghana Business Council, which he co-chaired during his tenure as Vice-President, saying the partnership helped attract investment and support major infrastructure projects.
He described the meeting as highly productive and said both sides reflected on what he termed a strong legacy of collaboration between the two countries.
Dr Bawumia also expressed appreciation for remarks by the High Commissioner commending efforts to promote policy-centred political discourse.
The meetings form part of a series of engagements by the NPP flagbearer with key national and international stakeholders as the party seeks to strengthen relationships across religious, diplomatic and development sectors.
