Ghana and Nepal explore student scholarships and agricultural trade
Discussions in Kathmandu covered possible educational exchanges, agricultural technology and tourism promotion, although the account of the meeting announced no agreements or implementation dates.
Ghana and Nepal have discussed possible student scholarship programmes and trade in agricultural technology as the two countries explore closer cooperation in education, tourism and culture.
The discussions took place when Ghana’s ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, presented his credentials to Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel in Kathmandu on Wednesday, October 14, according to an account of the visit.
For prospective students, the discussions offer an indication of
possible future opportunities, rather than an announced scholarship programme.
Bonsu conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to South-South cooperation — collaboration between developing countries.
President Paudel expressed willingness to strengthen relations through educational and cultural exchanges, alongside wider economic cooperation.
“We see great potential in our two nations,” he was quoted as saying.
The brief discussions also covered cultural festivals and tourism promotion.
Agricultural technology was another area raised, with the two sides exploring potential trade.
Bonsu also underscored what he described as cultural similarities between Ghana and Nepal, referring to the ceremonial chariot used during his arrival for the presentation of credentials.
Paudel praised the ambassador’s engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora and his efforts to attract investment and promote Ghana in Asia, according to the account.
Both sides expressed an interest in developing the relationship further, but the account gave no date for follow-up talks.
