Kristo Asafo Mission disputes shooting claims in incident involving former MP Adwoa Safo
The leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has rejected claims that former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, was shot during an incident at the church's premises in Kwabenya, offering an account that differs sharply from that of the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement, the church said the incident occurred on 21 June while a church event was taking place at the premises.
According to the Mission, Ms Safo arrived at the venue and drove her vehicle into the entrance gates, causing significant damage to two metallic gates at the property.
The church said worshippers and invited guests were gathered near the entrance at the time and described the incident as posing a risk to both people and property.
It said security personnel on duty intervened to prevent the situation from escalating and to ensure the safety of those attending the event.
The Mission also dismissed reports that the former lawmaker had been shot during the incident. It said it was aware of media reports suggesting she had sustained a gunshot injury but maintained that, to the best of its knowledge,
no shooting had occurred.
The church further rejected allegations linking any of its members or personnel to a shooting and described such claims as inaccurate.
The statement contrasts with an earlier account provided by the Ghana Police Service. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that armed security personnel at the premises had allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Ms Safo. Officers also reported finding multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
Police have since arrested six private security guards in connection with the case.
According to the police, a search operation led to the recovery of several firearms, including pump-action guns, a pistol loaded with ammunition and communication equipment.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
