Mampong to get second Ashanti passport application centre

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to establish a passport application centre in Mampong by the first quarter of next year, giving the Ashanti Region a second facility.

In a public notice, the ministry said premises had already been secured and work to equip the centre would begin in the next few weeks.

The additional centre is intended to make applications more convenient and ease pressure on staff at the region’s existing facility.

“A second PAC in Ashanti will ease the pressure on staff, enhance convenience for applicants and create jobs,” the notice said, referring to a Passport Application Centre.

The ministry pointed to the distribution of facilities between regions in explaining the proposal. Greater Accra has three passport application centres, it said, while Ashanti is the country’s second most populous region.

It argued that this provided a policy justification for an additional centre in Ashanti.

The proposed Mampong facility would give applicants another location within the region to access passport application services

The notice also gave no details of the project’s cost, staffing requirements or the number of jobs expected to be created.
