Obuasi headmaster rape allegation: Police send docket to Attorney-General
Police say they have completed key investigative procedures following a student’s complaint. The referral seeks legal advice on the next steps in the case.
Police have forwarded the case docket on a rape allegation against the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 16, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command said investigators had completed procedures including a medical examination, a reconstruction of the scene, photography and the collection of witness statements.
The referral is the latest step in an investigation into a student’s allegation that the headmaster raped her at his official residence on the school’s campus on July 25, 2026.
According to police, the student lodged a complaint at the Obuasi Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) on August 4, accompanied by her father.
She told investigators that she had gone to retrieve clothes from a drying area near the headmaster’s residence when he allegedly persuaded her to enter the house to run an errand.
The student alleged that Abdulai made unwanted sexual advances and raped her after she resisted. She also alleged that he subsequently gave her GH¢100 to keep the incident secret.
These allegations have not been established in court.
Police said they began investigating immediately after receiving the complaint.
The case docket was subsequently forwarded by DOVVSU in Bekwai to the Attorney-General’s Office for legal advice and further action.
The statement did not disclose the findings of the medical examination or the other evidence gathered during the investigation.
It also did not announce any charges, give a court appearance date or state whether Abdulai was in custody or on bail.
The police account did not include a response from the headmaster or his legal representatives. No timetable was given for the Attorney-General’s advice.
Police said they remained committed to investigating the complaint thoroughly and ensuring that the matter was dealt with appropriately.
