The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused Ghana's governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to fulfil its election promises, as he urged supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a gathering of party supporters in Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North Region on Saturday, the Effutu MP called for greater cohesion and discipline within the NPP, saying unity would be crucial to the party's prospects in future elections.
Mr Afenyo-Markin questioned the performance of the NDC administration, arguing that it had not met the expectations it raised during the 2024 election campaign.
"We should ask ourselves, is the NDC delivering on its promises?" he told supporters. He accused the governing party of misleading voters and failing to deliver after assuming office.
The Minority Leader said the opposition's ability to challenge the government effectively depended on maintaining internal unity, urging party members to put aside differences and work together.
"So today, in Sefwi-Wiawso, I speak to the entire region on behalf of the flagbearer, on behalf of Parliament, on behalf of all the elders of the party and plead with you to unite," he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also encouraged supporters to remain engaged in national political discussions and to closely scrutinise the government's performance.
The NDC has not publicly responded to the remarks.
